How to Store Rolling Tobacco to Keep It Fresh

Nothing ruins a roll faster than stale tobacco. Unprocessed leaf is especially sensitive to humidity and temperature because it contains no artificial humectants to stabilise moisture levels.

The Enemy: Dry Air

When tobacco dries out, the leaf becomes brittle, shreds unevenly, and burns too fast with a harsh, bitter finish. The roll itself becomes fragile and prone to tearing. A resealable pouch solves this at the macro level, but once you open your Ounce28 pouch, the clock starts.

The Ideal Environment

Keep your tobacco at around 60-65% relative humidity and room temperature — between 18°C and 22°C is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which degrades the leaf compounds quickly, and avoid refrigerating it unless you're storing sealed, unopened pouches long-term.

Practical Tips

• Always reseal the pouch fully after each use — press the zip-lock flat and smooth
• If you notice the leaf drying, add a small humidity pack (62% Boveda works well) inside the pouch
• Don't store tobacco near a heat source, window, or in a car
• An opened pouch kept properly will stay fresh for 4-6 weeks
